About Hypopressives, Low Pressure Fitness

About Hypopressives
WHAT ARE HYPOPRESSIVES?
Hypopressives was originally developed in Europe during the 1980's by Dr. Marcel Caufriez in an attempt to help postpartum women rehabilitate the pelvic floor to prevent &/or avoid dysfunctions such as prolapse or incontinence.   In 2006 doctors Tamara Rial and Piti Pinsach joined Dr. Caufriez in his research.  In 2014, they took Hypopressives to another level and created Low Pressure Fitness, a full body work out regimen incorporating the technicalities and fundamentals of Dr. Caufriez' research and morphed it into something that the general public can utilize to help treat and prevent core and pelvic issues helping to potentially alleviate the need for some medications or surgery.

Although used widely throughout Spain and most Latin American countires, Hypopressivs was not introduced to the UK until 2012, Canada in 2013 and the US in 2015! The language barrier probably had a huge contributing factor to the delay of Hypopressives reaching North America.  Still to date, the majority of research and information that you can find on this great technique will be in Spanish.  However, with Low Pressure Fitness expanding to English speaking countries in the last few years, information is becoming more accessible. Internationally, Low Pressure Fitness is starting to be considered a part of fundamental training to help minize the impact of other popular physical sports (i.e. biking, running, weight lifting etc.)  In fact, in Feburary of 2016, Gemelli Hopsital in Italy, aka the Vatican Hospital, has decided to train all of their physical therapists to use Low Pressure Fitness with their patients!

Hypopressives literally means Low Pressure.  The majority of traditional exercises - including core exercises (crunches, planks etc.) are HYPER-pressive, which means that it actually increases internal pressure. HYPOpressives are geared towards decreasing internal pressure within the thoracic, abdominal and pelvic cavities.  Pressure always has a way of finding the weakest point to try to 'escape', which can lead to health issues.  We all experience increased pressure from simple daily activities; working out, chasing kids, perhaps your job and even gravity!  How your body is prepared and structured to handle the pressure determines your outcome.  Many medical conditions such as prolapse, urinary incontinence, hernias and back pain are a direct result of a week core and pelvic floor.

Hypopressive, Low Pressure Fitness training works to balance the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) and reprogram your core and pelvic floor muscles to work at a subconscious level to support you throughout your daily life. This technical system of postures and breathing is more complex than it sounds.  That is why you cannot learn from watching videos or reading blogs.  It is important to be trained by someone who is a certified instructor.  As of right now, Core Essence is the only studio offering Hypopressive training in this region.

Hypopressive, Low Pressure Fitness is a whole body workout.  It is specifically designed to integrate the different muscle chains in the body. Forget working one section at a time!  This revolutionary approach is designed as a total body, pressureless workout! The best part?  Once trained by a professional, it only takes around 20 min and requires NO equipment!  Basic training typically consists of private sessions, meeting once or twice a week.  This is a very intricate postural workout, so it requires a lot of technical training while you are learning.

Please note that there is not a single program in the world that is a one size fits all in regards to fixing every problem that you might have.  It is true that the list of potential benefits this program can provide is HUGE and it is a great tool to incorporate to your health regimen, but to truly have great overall health - you need to look at the whole picture including diet and lifestyle in addition to exercise.
IS LOW PRESSURE FITNESS FOR YOU?

This program is designed to help rehabilitate from the inside out! The simple, yet extremely technical routine of postures and breathing are created to help so many facets of your life.  While at first glance you might think this is like Yoga or Pilates - it's not.  It's true it does have resemblances and roots in postures and breathing, but it is so much more. The list of benefits received from incorporating Hypopressives, Low Pressure Fitness into your life is huge!

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF & CORE ESSENCE

It’s always awkward for me to talk about myself – so I’m going to try to summarize my journey in a few paragraphs as best I can, just to give you an idea of how I got to where I am now, and how Core Essence came to existence.

I’m a born & raised Oklahoman.  I am a former gymnast and immediately started coaching gymnastics when I graduated high school.  I was fortunate enough to coach competitively for over a decade and also was a gymnastics judge for meets as well.   I am the kind of person who likes to be on all sides of everything I do so  I have the most knowledge possible.  I’m a life-long learner, or as some might say – a nerd – and proud of it!  :)  I married almost right out of high school & went to college for a business degree.  When I graduated, I moved over into real estate managing a real estate team and still coached in the evenings.  During this period, I also worked with my new family in their multi-media production company as a production coordinator. In 2007, my husband and I were blessed with the birth of our little man.  When the economy crashed in 2008, I went back to school to obtain a degree that I knew would always be able to provide a job – Nursing.  I graduated in 2011 from RSU with my RN degree.  That same year, my husband & I took over the reigns of the family’s production company – C9 Productions.

In early 2015, I was doing some research on women’s health issues for my continuing education requirements for my nursing degree, and by pure accident (or perhaps divine direction) I happened to stumble upon a blog from Europe that mentioned Hypopressives.  Intrigued, I began to do my own research, which led me to a huge number of great sites with tons of information, and research – in Spanish!!  I finally found my way to Low Pressure Fitness & Canadian master trainer Trista Zinn.  They were not currently offering any courses in the US, so I traveled to Canada to train under Trista, who is fabulous & passionate about teaching Hypopressives due to her own struggle with prolapse.  You can read her story here:

Later in 2015, they offered a US course – so I traveled out to NY to train with the developer of Low Pressure Fitness, Dr. Tamara Rial.  (An Amazing & Brilliant Woman!)  Since then, I have completed all 3 levels of training under both Trista and Tamara, along with the testing to become a LPF Certified Instructor. (Currently the only one in the region!)

After I was trained & equipped with the Hypopressives, Low Pressure Fitness technique, I needed a place to train women with this revolutionary program,  so I founded Core Essence.

When I reflect back to my past experiences – it all rolls into one beautiful circle.  I love coaching & fitness and I’m fascinated with the body and it’s amazing ability to get us through life.  However, I prefer prevention, health & natural alternatives over traditional medicine.  Low Pressure Fitness is a beautiful compliment to Health Care & Prevention.  Founding Core Essence has been a dream come true.  Being able to help prevent and rehab on a natural level, to train people in the methods of Hypopressives and all the benefits it provides – is an amazing combination for me.  I am so excited to bring this new technique to Oklahoma! I am even more excited for the people it is going to help!!

Be sure to check out the rest of my site for some great information on the benefits of Hypopressives and to learn more about my studio & what is involved in your sessions.

I hope that your day is filled with love, joy & sunshine!

~ Stacy
